the Latest part deux

March 26, 2010

So we needed to send a revised message this week in addition to the normal, weekly Latest for CRU. Mostly because some of the revisions/additions affect the weekend.

1) Saturday Soularium Outreach – This Sat/tomorrow at 1pm. We will meet at Hodges Starbux to gather Soularium materials, pair up, then go out on campus sharing Jesus with people. Afterward we will informally gather for dinner around 5:15. Location TBA. From there, you are welcome to come to Ryan Collins’ house for campfire time. Address is below. Start time for that will be after dinner/7pm.

Ryan Collins 1715 Tonalea Rd. Knoxville, TN 37909

2) Social on April 5th – We’re watching the NCAA finals at Greenbrier clubhouse. Guys bring drinks, girls bring snax. Time TBA.

3) Social on April 16th – “Dinner for 8″. This is a dinner/mixer similar to what we did on Spring Break. You could call it the CRU Cliquebreaker : )  We will assign apartments, give you food/ingredients to bring, and cook together for dinner. Guys/Gals. If you can host a dinner at your place email Lindsey.hendrix@uscm.org . Also email her if you are interested in just being part of the dinner nite in general.

4) Leadership Applications – The staff want to encourage you to fill these out and/or begin the process. They are due Easter weekend. We’ll be sorting through them the Monday after Easter, April 5th. Just email them to the staff member you know best and also to britton.sharp@uscm.org lindsey.hendrix@uscm.org. To find the application search under the “RESOURCES” tab at the top of this blog site.

5) NO CRU April 1 – We are now in a series on 2 Peter. This series will carry us through the end of school. We will NOT have CRU next thursday April 1. We will resume April 8th covering 2 Peter ch. 2.

2) Reminder to all CRU women… This Wednesday night at 8pm in the Alumni Memorial Auditorium we are hosting an outreach called “Girl’s Night Out: Sex in the City”. It’s for women only. Cost is free. This would be ideal to bring any friend to.

4) We now have the Leadership Application ready. It is for ALL CRU students who want to lead/serve in CRU. There are many places to serve and lead. Please download the word doc and email it back within the instructions given at the end. Click below for the link.

Leadership Application

Leadership App.

March 19, 2010

Below is the link for the leadership application that we spoke about at CRU last night.

CRU Leadership Application

If you weren’t there here’s what to know.

1) Anyone in CRU who desires to serve more or lead in various capacities needs to fill out the application.

2) The application is mainly to help you discover your giftedness and to let the staff know where your passions are for ministering on campus.

3) It may seem lengthy, but the portion you fill out is brief.

Which Way?

March 17, 2010

Does this picture describe how you feel in CRU? Do you sometimes wonder, “where is CRU going?”, “how do I fit in?”, “where do I start serving?”. If you’ve ever asked these questions you are not alone.

This Thursday at CRU we will be unveiling the newest Leadership/Service framework for our ministry.  We’re asking all the students, whether greatly or loosely involved with CRU, to come at 7pm McClung Museum to be part of where we’re going as a Movement.

Some of the topics we’ll address are:

  • How every student can serve/lead in CRU
  • How to discover and use the spiritual gifts God has given you
  • How to reach a part of campus in which you have a heart to reach
  • Where to guide younger students to get involved as an entry point with CRU

CRU “the Latest” March 3

March 3, 2010

CRU,

Here’s the Latest.

1) You should come to CRU this week because we are having a special CRU. We’re taking a break on I Peter and having a panel of people come in and speak about how YOU can minister in the workplace. Some of them are picured below. Just Kidding. You should still come.

2) This weekend begins Spring Break! Woooooooohoooooooo! So that’s all that needs to be communicated.

A New Morning…

March 2, 2010

Tuesday, March 2, 2010

O Lord, you hear my voice In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. Psalm 5:3

Before my first son was born, I remember asking for all sorts of advice on what to do and how to prepare for his first few weeks of life. I got some great advice…..burping, bathing, changing diapers, the best monitor, car seats, high chairs etc. However, NO ONE did or could have, for that matter, prepare me for the fatigue and sleep deprivation that comes along with that first year. Lord help me. No words explain it justly! I remember rocking him at 2 o’clock in the morning, just wishing it was time to brew a cup of coffee. That cup of coffee represented SO much. A new day. The night was gone and I had another chance at this motherhood thing. Maybe he would nap better that day or I would feel more confident or maybe he wouldn’t cry quite so much! Whatever it was, I recognized the power of morning. Look again to Psalm 5:3.

I looked up “morning” in my concordance and it means simply, “at the coming of sunrise” but figuratively it means, “the bright joy after a night of distress.”

I would definitely define those long nights with a newborn as distressing! But with the morning brings BRIGHT JOY.

Let’s take this a step further. Are you in a night of distress? A season of distress maybe? Friend, be encouraged today that “bright joy” lays ahead. I also love to think on the truth that he hears our voice. HEARS OUR VOICE. He listens. The  root of “hear” in this passage means he “pays attention to our interests.” ALL of them. No matter the silliness or severity of our requests, he listens eagerly and cares about each one. Amazing. After I read this today, I took my journal and wrote our every prayer request I could think to write. Requests that vary from peace for my sweet uncle with failing health to wisdom on how to make my 18-month-old stop his glass shattering squealing! Then I read them….out loud, because he listens to my voice. And now I “wait in expectation” for Him. Hallelujah. He is paying attention to you this morning. No matter how long it has been since you’ve prayed or how minuscule the request. He is waiting eagerly to hear your voice.
